Updates from Burrator Class
During our ‘It’s OK to be different week’, pupils in Burrator Class were invited to the ‘REConnect’ event at Buckfast Abbey’s Education Centre. It is an annual event which gives pupils from local schools the chance to reflect on the bigger questions in life, using a range of different thought-provoking stations.
Following a term where the film, ‘The Greatest Showman’ has played a key part in Burrator’s curriculum, it seemed fitting that the children spent the majority of their Enterprise Project earnings on a Greatest Showman themed day complete with circus tent and magician!
In line with tradition, Year 6 leavers led the end of year Mass for the whole school community. Afterwards, there was a special cake for the pupils to enjoy.
Burrator pupils performed the play, ‘Armada Ahoy’, for parents/carers and the whole school community at the Leavers’ Assembly. The children had been introduced to the script during a Play in a Day Workshop, and then practised their parts for the next few days before presenting it to a packed audience.
Dartmoor National Park Authority, through their Heritage Lottery Fund Project, “Moor than Meets the Eye” funded a community archaeological excavation at Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Some pupils from Year 5 visited a medieval manor house, Glebe Farm. Pupils in Burrator have been taking part in a number of problem solving activities, including measuring and calculating angles and working as a team to complete a cup stacking challenge.
Year 5 and 6 pupils have taken part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 again this year to learn a bit more about cycling and how to stay safe on the road.
This year, Burrator pupils had a very successful Enterprise fete, which contained stalls organised and run by the children. FOSMs (Friends of St Mary’s) also ran some stalls. The local Fire Brigade also brought a fire engine for people to look around during the afternoon, which was a real success!
Burrator Class have taken part in a range of activities with the theme of ‘resilience’. All the activities required courage and commitment, ranging from sports, art and outdoor education. Take a look at some of these activities in the presentation below: Burrator’s Resilience Activities Week
