Updates from Burrator Class
RE:Connect
Pupils from Burrator Class were invited by the Abbey Education Department to take part in a range of activities related to religion and ethics. All of the activities were designed to give time for people to think carefully about themselves and the world around them.
Investigative science
Pupils in Burrator have been carrying out some investigative work relating to their topic on light.
School Of Rock Workshops
Hand Bells Group
Children in Burrator Class were treated to a hand bell concert by some local people from Buckfast and Buckfastleigh Parish. They played a number of well know Christmas Carols and then people had the chance to join in themselves and have a go. Even the adults tried out the handbells!
Victorian Day
Burrator Class had a special Victorian day to celebrate their new topic. Pupils were asked to come into school dressed for the occasion and even paid a genuine Victorian penny for the privilege of being educated for the day. Peer mediation
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 at St Mary’s took part in Peer Mediation Sessions, which were run by Behaviour Support professionals. Each pupil had to apply for the role and the skills learnt will hopefully enhance the role that they already carry out as lunchtime ‘buddies’ for the younger pupils. Farmwise 2017
Pupils from Fernworthy and Burrator Classes enjoyed a ‘hands on’ visit to the Devon Farmwise event held at Westpoint Arena, as part of their Harvest focus this half term. St Nicholas Day 2017
Burrator pupils celebrated St Nicholas Day at Buckfast Abbey with pupils from lots of other local primary schools. During the day they worked with children from different schools, taking part in a range of different craft workshops. Science
Science lessons have focussed on light this term and pupils have had the opportunity to discover practically how light is made up of different colours and split it into these colours using prisms.
Burrator’s trip to Paignton Zoo
As part of their topic on Africa, Burrator Class have visited Paignton Zoo to learn more about animals that live in the continent and took part in a workshop as well as seeing some of these animals for themselves.
