As part of their Vikings topic, Fernworthy pupils have designed and made some sea monsters using modroc.
Rise of the Robots
Fernworthy Class have created their own robots as part of their design technology sessions.
Shepherd’s Story – Storytelling Session
Meldon Class and Fernworthy Class both visited the Guest Hall at the Abbey for a special storytelling session with Alison and Anna from the Education Centre. The story was told from the shepherd’s point of view and then was followed by making some shepherd cards.
Farmwise 2017
Pupils from Fernworthy and Burrator Classes enjoyed a ‘hands on’ visit to the Devon Farmwise event held at Westpoint Arena, as part of their Harvest focus this half term. GP visit
Dr Kate, a local GP, came into Fernworthy class to share some of her thoughts about how we can stay healthy. The pupils have been learning about ‘Healthy Humans’ so invited her into class to find out more about their bodies and good health.
Oral health sessions
To fit in with Fernworthy class’ topic, Healthy Humans, the school was visited by a dental professional who talked to them about how to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Some children had the opportunity to also use the disclosure tablets which enabled them to see exactly where the plaque was on their teeth.
Fernworthy’s Camping Trip

Fernworthy Outdoor Education Sessions
Pupils have taken part in lots of exciting outdoor education sessions, which have been linked to learning in other curriculum areas too. Activities have included learning about predators and prey, habitat protection, identification of different species, natural art and lots of opportunities to discover wildlife and woodland areas in the school grounds.
Anglo Saxon Celebrations
Pupils in Fernworthy class have been learning all about what life would have been like in Anglo-Saxon times. As well as carrying out a range of different cross-curricular activities, the children also took part in a special Anglo-Saxon day.
