Fire Engine Visit
To fit in with Meldon’s topic, ‘People who help us’, one of our parents (Mr Watkin) very kindly arranged for a real fire engine to visit St Mary’s which created lots of excitement!
African Storytelling
St Mary’s welcomed Abimbola Alao to school. She started the day by telling some stories to the whole school, which included lots of actions and phrases that pupils really enjoyed joining it with!

Burrator Outdoor Education Sessions
Burrator Class have taken part in a range of outdoor education sessions, some of which have enhanced their learning in other subject areas and others have served to develop their understanding of their local natural environment and learn about how to protect it. Venford Class Outdoor Education
Pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 have all taken part in outdoor education sessions which enriched their learning across the curriculum. Children participated in a range of activities including storytelling, scavenger hunting, learning about the conservation of habitats and developing team building skills.
Fernworthy Outdoor Education Sessions
Pupils have taken part in lots of exciting outdoor education sessions, which have been linked to learning in other curriculum areas too. Activities have included learning about predators and prey, habitat protection, identification of different species, natural art and lots of opportunities to discover wildlife and woodland areas in the school grounds.
Anglo Saxon Celebrations
Pupils in Fernworthy class have been learning all about what life would have been like in Anglo-Saxon times. As well as carrying out a range of different cross-curricular activities, the children also took part in a special Anglo-Saxon day.
Bug Hunting
Pupils from Venford Class have been ‘bug hunting’ as part of their topic, which has involved learning all about mini-beasts and their different life cycles.
Crealy
Following the fantastic efforts of the Enterprise Fete, Burrator pupils decided to donate some of the money raised to the British Heart Foundation, with the remainder being used to pay for a class trip to Crealy. Everyone had a wonderful day, despite feeling a bit sick after being on the some of the rides!
Bikeability
Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 took part in Bikeability sessions with Gideon, our cycling instructor. Pupils took part in five sessions during the week to build their confidence in cycling and in road safety.
