Handbells
A local handbell group came into school to work with Burrator Class. They performed some traditional Christmas carols and allowed the pupils to play the handbells. Pupil librarians
Our Year 6 School Librarians have received training from professional librarian, Carolyn, who works for the Devon Schools’ Library Service. She showed them some new methods for sorting books and gave them some tips on displaying books on a specific theme. CAP sessions
Pupils across the school had the opportunity to take part in three CAP sessions (Child Assault Prevention), organised and run by a team from the Devon Community Project CAP UK. Carol Service and Crib Blessings
Pupils from Venford, Fernworthy and Burrator all took part in our annual Carol Service in Buckfast Abbey Church. Each class also led a special Crib Blessing in each of the parish churches during December. Our Art Club kindly made sheep and angels to decorate the cribs with.
Meldon’s Christmas Story
Children heard ‘A Shepherd’s Tale’ as part of a workshop at the Abbey Education Centre. The story retold the real meaning of Christmas, as seen through the eyes of the shepherds.
Meldon’s Nativity
Meldon Class performed their ‘Wriggly Nativity’ for parents and carers in the school hall. All of the children, including pre-school pupils took park by singing a number of songs and some children had learnt lines to retell the Christmas story.
St Nicholas Day
Burrator Class took part in St Nicholas Day, along with a number of other schools at Buckfast Abbey. The day involved taking part in several workshops, in which gifts were made. Venford’s Nativity at Pennywell
Pupils at St Mary’s were invited to participate in a special live nativity at Pennywell which was filmed by the BBC for an episode of Songs of Praise.
Buddy Food Hygiene Training
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 who carry out Buddy duties have been given Food Hygiene training, similar to the training that adults have when they are involved with serving or preparing food.
