Learning afternoons
Fernworthy, Burrator and Venford Classes have all prepared learning afternoons. The children shared their learning through teaching others about what they have recently learnt. Fernworthy ran a Roman afternoon, where they demonstrated a Roman battle march and even had also had special Roman food to try! Invaders and Settlers
Fernworthy Class have been learning all about Invaders and Settlers. As part of this history topic, pupils replicated Anglo-Saxon weaving techniques. The class also attended an Anglo Saxon workshop at Buckfast Abbey’s Education Department, which involved studying a range of artefacts. Meldon’s Train Trip
Meldon Class took a trip on the steam train to visit the Rare Breeds Farm in Totnes. The class had been learning about transport and were very excited to go on a real train – for some children it was their very first trip on a train!
French café
Burrator Class used their language skills to good use by ordering food from a café – using their French vocabulary! The afternoon was a great success and some pupils were even confident enough to have their conversations recorded.
Maths measuring
Pupils in Venford Class have enjoyed experimenting with capacity and weight problems in their practical maths sessions.
Fernworthy’s Roman Day
Fernworthy Class have been learning all about the Romans and Celts. REConnect
During our ‘It’s OK to be different week’, pupils in Burrator Class were invited to the ‘REConnect’ event at Buckfast Abbey’s Education Centre. It is an annual event which gives pupils from local schools the chance to reflect on the bigger questions in life, using a range of different thought-provoking stations.
