RED TED
To encourage reading in Meldon and Venford Classes, St Mary’s have run the RED TED scheme in school – Read Every Day, Talk Every Day. Each time a child reads with an adult and it is signed in their reading record book, they earn points towards prizes which are then presented in our Achievement Assembly… Read more »
Venford’s Learning Afternoon
To celebrate the end of their ‘Food Glorious Food’ topic, pupils in Venford invited parents/ carers into class for a learning afternoon, to look at the work that has been completed during the topic. Dragons
As part of their topic about Dragons, pupils in Venford Class constructed their own pneumatic systems to create their own dragons. The children also wrote some instructions to explain to others how they worked. Some people also performed a Chinese New Year Dragon dance!
Carrot harvest in Venford
Pupils in Venford Class harvested a bumper crop of carrots this year, which they used to make carrot cakes.
Pennywell Farm Christmas Nativity
Pupils from Meldon and Venford Class were treated to a special trip to Pennywell Farm and got to join in their own nativity play with real animals. Venford Class Outdoor Education
Pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 have all taken part in outdoor education sessions which enriched their learning across the curriculum. Children participated in a range of activities including storytelling, scavenger hunting, learning about the conservation of habitats and developing team building skills.
Bug Hunting
Pupils from Venford Class have been ‘bug hunting’ as part of their topic, which has involved learning all about mini-beasts and their different life cycles.
Butterfly Farm Trip
Pupils from Venford visited the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, as part of their life cycles topic. Pupils had the chance to look closely at different varieties of butterflies and moths in various stages of life cycle. They also learnt about the otters and had the opportunity to watch them being fed.
Pirate Day
Pupils in Meldon and Venford class shared a ‘pirate day’ to celebrate their curriculum topics which both linked to the sea. The children came dressed as pirates and the morning was spent carrying out lots of pirate related activities. In the afternoon, pupils enjoyed a pirate party, treasure hunt and enjoyed eating a pirate ‘feast’.
