Women’s Day of Prayer
Pupils were invited to participate in the Women’s Day of Prayer event, which was held at the Violet Evelyn Hall at Buckfast Abbey. Pupils learnt a song in French in preparation for the service.
Christmas Nativity
The whole school participated in the Carol Service held at Buckfast Abbey. The event was very well attended by the whole school community. Pupils sang, read and performed liturgical dance to retell the Christmas story and remind everyone about the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas Fayre
The Friends of St Mary’s held their annual Christmas Fayre to raise funds for the school. Father Christmas made a visit and spent some time in his grotto, kindly decorated by Mrs Bernice Perryman, one of the school’s Teaching Assistants. Children in Need
Pupils raised money for Children in Need by holding a cake sale after school. The school council helped to publicise the event and helped to run the cake stall with the help of FOSMs (Friends of St Mary’s).
Scholastic Book Fair
As a way of encouraging pupils to read for pleasure and to raise funds for the school so that new books can be added to the library, Friends of St Mary’s held a Book Fair in school. Many of the pupils bought books and it was well attended by parents and friends of the school.
Traffic Monitoring
Local police officers closely monitored the speed of motorists near to the school gates. Pupils got the opportunity to talk to the officer about his work.
St Mary’s Choir
The school choir has attended a number of community events and residential homes. The choir were able to wear their newly printed t-shirts for these occasions.
