Our pupils took part in the annual Easter Bonnet parade. Everyone had the chance to design and make their own Easter hat (or bonnet) which were shown in our assembly. Once again this year, staff at St Cuthbert’s Conference Centre prepared a lovely Christmas meal for the staff, families and pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
The school choir have been asked to perform at a number of venues including St Cuthbert’s conference Centre, Buckfastleigh Town Fair, South Brent Parish Church and St Andrew’s Residential Home. St Mary’s Catholic Primary School choir were asked to sing at the Buckfastleigh Christmas fair this year and create their own lantern parade.
Pupils in Burrator class took part in a workshop organised by a local hand bell group. The children heard some music performed by the group but also had the chance to try handbell ringing for themselves. Even the staff decided to join in!
The school community have supported Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal again this year. We collected lots of boxes which were sorted by our School Council and Mrs Freeborn and Miss Keir.
Two of our pupils represented St Mary’s Catholic Primary School at the Remembrance Day service in Buckfastleigh by laying a wreath on the war memorial as part of the service.
Demelza, an Education officer from the Devon Waste team visited St Mary’s to help the school to reduce waste, reuse and recycle more. This year the school is working with the music department at Buckfast Abbey to offer the opportunity for pupils to become Choristers as part of the Buckfast Abbey choir. The children have choir practices before school as well as an after school practice and then sing in the Abbey on a Sunday.
