Buckfast Abbey’s Children’s Book Festival
Children from each class attended a book festival at the Abbey. We attended different workshops led by authors of a range of children’s books.
Devon County Show Scarecrow Competition
Pupils in Venford designed and created their own scarecrow from recycled materials and entered this in the Devon County Show.
Beach Clean
Following Venford’s work on recycling and protecting marine habitats, a beach clean was organised in the holidays at Dawlish Warren.
Devon Wildlife Champions
St Mary’s is taking part in the South Devon Wildlife Champions scheme, which is organised by Devon Wildlife Trust. Maya from the Trust came into school to launch the project with a special assembly. Bellever Shetland Ponies
St Mary’s has been visited by two Shetland ponies, called Milly Magic and Elegant Grace. Pupils learned how to care for the ponies and even had the opportunity to carry out some grooming. Fairtrade Fortnight
To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, pupils organised a Fairtrade Sale selling fairtrade snacks and using fairtrade products to bake cakes.
Newton Abbot and District Society of Arts (NADSA)
NADSA helped to organise a visit by musicians from Divertimento Quartet. Four musicians came into school to talk about being a professional musician and also their instruments: flutes, violins and cellos. When they played together, they created a beautiful sound! Christmas Lunch
