Anti-Bullying Week
Pupils took part in the special assembly to talk about National Anti-Bullying week. The theme for this year was ‘Small Change. Alpaca Therapy
Some pupils took part in ‘alpaca therapy’ workshops. The session involved walking, grooming and feeding the alpacas, who were very well behaved and seemed to enjoy the attention.
Community Dentist
The community dentist visited St Mary’s to teach pupils about how to care for their teeth and to help to protect them from decay. The disclosure tablets which were used by some pupils, enabled plaque to be revealed on their teeth and in turn, helped pupils to ensure that this was removed during brushing.
Doctor’s Visit
Doctor Kate visited Fernworthy Class to talk about the human body and how it works. Pupils also discussed how to stay healthy and how to care for their bodies.
Parliamentary Education
St Mary’s pupils have learnt more about the way in which the government works through a visit from the South West Regional Outreach Officer for Parliament’s Education Service. Burrator’s ‘Wellbeing’ Week and Residential Trip
This year Burrator Class took part in a number of activities as part of their residential trip. They visited Haven Banks Centre at Exeter Canal, where they learnt how to paddle board (although the water was cold!) and how to build a raft. Enterprise Fair
Burrator Class helped to organise the Enterprise Fair again this year, where pupils ran stalls to generate money for the class and for charity. Torbay and Devon Civic Award
Congratulations to those pupils in Year 6 who have worked hard this year to gain their Torbay and Devon Civic Award. First Aid Skills
Burrator pupils took part in some first aid training with Ian Hutchings, as part of their activities week. During the day the children learnt basic first aid skills including how to deal with someone who has collapsed, is choking or needs bandaging.
Devon Wildlife Champions
St Mary’s is taking part in the South Devon Wildlife Champions scheme, which is organised by Devon Wildlife Trust. Maya from the Trust came into school to launch the project with a special assembly.
