Dogs Trust Visit
A member of the local Dogs Trust came to St Mary’s to teach the pupils about staying safe around dogs, both those that are known to them and unknown dogs who they may see in the park or outside school. Attendance
St Mary’s have focussed on improving attendance for the past few years. This year each pupil has the chance of win family tickets to Woodlands, a local theme park, if they achieve 99% or 100% attendance over the course of a term.
St John’s Ambulance First Aid Training
Burrator class benefited from a six hour first aid course organised and delivered by Sue from St John’s Ambulance. The day involved learning about what should be in a first aid kit, how to communicate with a patient, choking, treating wounds, chest compressions and how to put someone in the recovery position.
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2015 was celebrated on Tuesday 10th February, with the slogan ‘Let’s create a better internet together’, reaching millions across the UK and globally. All About Me!
Venford’s topic about ‘All about me’ involved a visit from a community dentist, who talked to the children about how to keep their teeth clean. Pupils also had the opportunity to practise brushing their teeth using a giant brush and set of dentures.
Healthy Humans
To launch the Healthy Humans topic, pupils were visited by a local dentist and the children found out how to use disclosure tablets to identify plaque and learnt about how to take care of their teeth and gums. E-Safety education
St Mary’s welcomed two police officers , Tamzin Campbell-Moseley and Keith Hodgins,to talk to Key Stage Two pupils about how to keep safe online. Children in Fernworthy and Burrator enjoyed the afternoon and parents also have the opportunity to learn about e-Safety in the session being run by Keith Hodgins.
Fire Safety
A local fire fighter came into school to talk to pupils about how to stay safe in the event of a fire. The children also learnt about the uniform that is worn by fire fighters and about the work that they carry out.
Police Visit
Pupils were visited by the police and a doctor to learn about the important role they play in the community.
