Key Stage 1 Sports Festival
Year 1 and 2 pupils attended a Key Stage 1 sports festival at South Dartmoor Community College, along with lots of other schools who are also part of our local sports partnership. The children participated in a range of activities competing in ‘friendly’ races against other pupils.
Sports Day
Sports day this year was slightly different, with children participating in a range of athletic activities in the morning to gain House Points for their given team. In the afternoon, pupils took part in more traditional races to which parents and friends were invited to attend.
Burrator Residential Trip
Burrator class went on their annual residential based this year on a range of outdoor adventurous activities. The week began with a trip to Dewerstone bunkhouse on Dartmoor and various ‘endurance’ challenges including climbing and an assault course which was very muddy! Key Stage 2 Athletics Tournament
Two teams of pupils represented St Mary’s at the athletics tournament held at South Dartmoor Community College. The Year 3/4 team and Year 5/6 team competed against other schools in a number of events including sprinting, jumping, javelin and shot putt.
First Holy Communion
Nine children from St Mary’s made their First Holy Communion in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Buckfast Abbey. All the children attended weekly sessions after school over a number of months and worked extremely hard to prepare for this special occasion.
Visit from French Twinning Association
Scorriton Twinning Association visited St Mary’s with some visitors from Fontaine-Henry in the Normandy region of France. The French president of the twinning association, Marie-Claude Madec, was excited to visit the school and helped to create a link between St Mary’s and the primary school in Fontaine-Henry. Wear It Wild Fundraising Day
Whilst studying habitats and researching endangered animals, pupils in Fernworthy class requested that St Mary’s take part in the ‘Wear it Wild’ day to raise money for World Wildlife Fund, which raises money to protect endangered animals. Refugee Day
As part of St Mary’s joint Global Education project, a Refugee Day was arranged to raise awareness of refugees within the UK. Storytelling Festival
Pupils were invited to the storytelling festival organised by the Education Department at Buckfast Abbey to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The three day festival involved storytelling, theatre and puppetry workshops for pupils to attend. Button Box
The whole school took part in the summer musical performance of ‘Button Box’ by Starshine Music. Pupils learnt all of the songs and Year 5 and 6 put together some drama sketches to accompany the performance.
