Music Sharing Day
As part of the local learning community, pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 at St Mary’s were invited to take part in a music sharing day with other pupils from other local primary schools. The day focussed on performance, vocal work and percussion through a number of workshops.
Fernworthy trip to Dartmoor Zoo
Fernworthy visited Dartmoor Zoo following their topic work on habitats. Pupils enjoyed seeing a number of endangered animals and learning about their natural environment. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the big cats, including a jaguar and a lynx.
Hedgehog Hospital talk
Fernworthy class have been learning about taking care of animals and as part of this topic, enjoyed listening to someone from Devon’s Prickly Ball Hedgehog hospital near Newton Abbot. Pupils learnt about how to look after hedgehogs and how injured hedgehogs are cared for. Afterwards, they made some hedgehogs of their own!
Monoprinting Workshop
Lucy Jackson, professional artist, visited St Mary’s again this year to work with pupils to create mono-print designs based on the theme of ‘Creation’. Birds of Prey visit
Mr Taylor kindly brought in some birds of prey onto the school field to show to everyone. He talked about the different species of birds and what needs to be done to look after them.
Calligrapher Visit
Fernworthy class were lucky enough to spend a morning with Calligrapher Ruth Hodges linked to their Anglo-Saxon topic. The children learnt all about the history of early writing from the Anglo-Saxon period and how the monks and script writers wrote on vellum using quill pens. Red Nose Day
Pupils raised money for Red Nose day this year, by dressing up in red. Some children even made their own Red Nose Day t-shirts and decorated their hair with red spray. In a special assembly, the pupils found out about how the money is used to help children around the world to receive an education.
School Meal Celebrations
There were celebrations at St Mary’s, as the school has achieved an average of 85% uptake of school meals by children this term.
