All the pupils at St Mary’s took part in a special Easter hunt around Buckfast Abbey, organised and led by the Abbey’s Education department. Pupils enjoyed searching for clues and finding out about the Easter Story.

To complete the Solar System topic in Burrator class, pupils designed and modelled their own Solar System inspired outfits in preparation for a class fashion show. Pupils at St Mary’s were lucky enough to view the partial eclipse, using special eclipse viewers. Although the morning started off cloudy, the clouds broke and the whole school were treated to a spectacular view of the eclipse. Venford Class went on a spring walk, to spot different signs of spring. The Abbey gardeners helped pupils to identify different plants and wildlife along the way.

St Mary’s has linked with a school in Uganda, through the Devon Development Education centre. This project looks at what children in Uganda and children in Devon have in common – a school garden which needs planning and taking care of. Over the next 12 months, pupils will be sharing their gardening experiences with children… Read more »

Pupils in Fernworthy class enjoyed some football coaching sessions, provided by a South Dartmoor Sports partnership coach. Many of the pupils then took part in an inter-schools tournament, between St Mary’s and Buckfastleigh Primary.

Year 5 and 6 pupils again performed at South Dartmoor Community College’s Body Language Dance festival. This year the theme was ‘Coast and Moor’ and pupils from St Mary’s took the concept of coastal erosion to base their dance upon. Pupils enjoyed participating in a number of badminton sessions, with badminton coach Zoe Hills from the South Dartmoor Sports Partnership. Many of the children hadn’t played the game before so enjoyed learning new skills to control the shuttle and racket and also managed to play some small sided games.
