Drum Lessons
Pupils were visited by percussion and drum teachers who gave demonstrations of how to play these instruments professionally. Some pupils decided to sign up for lessons which now take place at St Mary’s each week.
Extreme Earth – Volcanoes
Pupils in Burrator learnt about Extreme Earth and as part of this topic, were challenged to design and build their own interactive 3-D model volcano. Each pupil explained and demonstrated their model in turn. Some were able to produce smoke, lava and even mini explosions!
Egyptian Topic
Pupils made a number of Egyptian artefacts including shaduf’s, jewellery and cartouches as part of their art and technology work this term.
Egyptian Day
Pupils took part in an Egyptian workshop run by the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter. Pupils from Fernworthy Class became archaeologists for the day and learnt to piece together evidence about life and death in Ancient Egypt through artefact handling, studying images and dramatic role play. Theatre Alibi, ‘Mucky Pup’
As part of the Anti-Bullying Week awareness work which took place at St Mary’s, Theatre Alibi were again invited to school this year to perform their latest play by Daniel Jamieson, ‘Mucky Pup’ based on the book by Ken Brown.
Tag Rugby
Following a number of tag rugby sessions in school, 19 pupils from Fernworthy class and Burrator class went to South Dartmoor Community College to participate in a Tag Rugby Tournament. The Year 3/4 team won their match against Stover School and Year 5/6 came third overall, which was a great achievement.
Football match against Buckfastleigh
Pupils from St Mary’s took part in a friendly match against Buckfastleigh. Two teams took part and all enjoyed the matches and two players from St Mary’s scored, although in this instance Buckfastleigh won the two matches played.
Gymnastics Sessions
All pupils at St Mary’s have benefited from sessions from a qualified gymnastics coach this term. The school has benefited from new gym equipment and wall bars in the new hall.

Congratulations to one of our pupils, Jasmine who won the prestigious ‘Extreme writing’ competition held in Exeter this term, as part of the literary festival. Remembrance Day 2014
As part of the First World War remembrance, each pupil created their own poppy, recording their own prayers and thoughts about the events of the First World War and thinking about those still affected by war today.
